This was a lesson I had to teach myself because I was educated by evangelicals who preached lies from the pulpits and forbade anyone questioning things. I did a lot of reading at home and one after another of their claims fell by the wayside.

One good rule of thumb is if one does a search on a claim and sees a whole lot ideological sites making it but no one else. Ignore the claim as likely to be invalid.

Now I don't put myself on the Left-Right spectrum at all. I'm pro civil liberties, social freedom, individual rights, diversity, etc. But I'm also a support of markets over state planning unless someone is violating the rights of others. It used to be said that economic view was "conservative" or "Right" but given the views of today's Right it's another universe.
