Woke is a meaning less term invented as an insult to describe anything the speaker doesn't like. As for the decent into "identity politcs" who made it a criminal offense for people to be gay (that's identity politics, sodomy laws for same-sex couples). Who passed Jim Crow saying only certain races were allowed in certain places? That was the Right.

It only got called identity politics when the groups that were targeted by these "traditionalist conservatives" started fighting back.
