You seem to posit there are just two grops in question. One is those who know history and then there are Republicans who lie about history. But in reality most peple don't know this about the Roman empire and yet are not committed to lies about it—people who are being informed for the first time.

I would suggest that the bulk of the publich don't know the history and yet are not committed to conspiracy theories.
